An IIT Graduate with over 35 years of experience in both the corporate and the development sector for Water and Sanitation. A qualified Lead assessor for ISO Certification.She has Worked with UNICEF for fifteen years across five states ( Maharashtra ,Andhra ,Karnataka ,Himachal ,Kerala )as a project officer and as a technical support across the country on issues of water supply, water conservation , water quality and sanitation both in the urban and rural context . Clarity and proven ability to work with various stake holders including the government set up at the district, state and centre level. Community participation and sustainability were the key criteria for the demonstration projects undertaken in these districts/wards. Member of the multidisciplanry core team of the Gadge Baba Abhiyan sanitation intiative responsible both for conceptualization and evaluation of the program in the state of Maharashtra which was later adopted by the Government Of India as the Nirmal Gram Puruskar.

Oct 2010 –Feb 2013: Chief of Party For Water Analysis Innovative Systems Programme.Development Alternatives Incorporate-Bethesda The project comprised of two parts namely the first part was to carry out an assessment of water in the watsan , ,agriculture ,health and the impact of climate change on water resources.This was to identify a suitable niche for USAID funding in the water sector by comparative matrix methodology and highlighted the priority sectors for investment .

The second part was to support the GOI intiative on water efficiency by developing municipal water use guidelines for three cities –water supply and climate change vulnerability,legal and policy frame work related to water efficiency ,water use survey ,opportunities and recommendations for water use efficiency and best practice case studies both from within and outside the country.

Professional Experience:

Sep 2004- Dec 07: UNICEF, Hyderabad, India as Project Officer (Water and Sanitation)

Project Officer for Water and Sanitation in the States of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. Emergency Focal Person for these two States and Staff Representative.

Scaling up of National Programs on Total Sanitation, Drinking Water (Swajaldhara) and School Sanitation Program in these States.

As an emergency focal point responsible for liasioning with Relief commissioners of Andhra and Karnataka ,NGO’s and district authorities for prepardness and relief operations.

UN Observer for the disaster preparedness undertaken by the state of Andhra.

Strengthening State and District Units by exposure to new approaches and technologies through support of pilot projects/organizing visits /support for capacity building programmes for both government and non government sectors.

Development of an integrated mitigation plan for fluoride mitigation.

Supporting /Demonstrating sanitation initiatives in areas with low accessibility to water.

Overall responsibility for budget allocation ,selection and monitoring of working partners and annual reporting on fund utilization.

Steering committee member of the Maharashtra technical team for undertaking innovative projects.

Nov 1995 – Sep 2004: UNICEF, Mumbai,India as Project Officer (Water and Sanitation)

Worked on enhancing sustainability of drinking water sources and sanitation initiatives through community participation and training initiatives.

Achieved through a multi pronged approach involving advocacy of existing ground water act, enhancing skills of the technical sector in communication, transparency in data collection and collective analysis at the community level.

Technical interventions with active participation from community .These interventions were acknowledged by the Government of Maharashtra as the state led the way on Swajaldhara.

Worked closely with women and children to bring about awareness on sanitation and hygiene. Work done through children in the district of Sangli was then implemented across the state.

Core team member of the multi disciplinary team of the Maharashtra State Government for the Gadge Baba Abhiyan sanitation intiative adopted by the Government Of India as Nirmal Gram Puruskar .

Supported sanitation evaluation for both the State government of Maharashtra and also the Government of India for the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu.

Apr 1993 – Nov 1995 : UNICEF, New Delhi, India as Assistant Project Officer

Provided technical support to the State field offices for programs pertaining to water quality testing, and remedial measures, setting up systems for hand pump repairs and, promoting rainwater harvesting through community initiative including women’s groups and women friendly technologies.

Initiated the ISO certification for hand pump manufactures to ensure quality parameter for low technology products.

Sep 1989 – Apr 1993: Graphite Vicarb India Ltd., Nasik, Maharashtra, India as Senior Engineer (Marketing and Design)

Developing Standards for Bureau of Indian Standards besides marketing, manufacturing and installation of the same across the country.

Marketing of Glass fiber reinforced plastic pipes for the first time in the country.

Design of pipe, laying criteria, tendering and implementation.

Sep 1979 -Sep 1989: Tata Consulting Engineers, Mumbai , India as Senior Assistant Engineer

Detailed engineering designing for water supply, waste water treatment plants and collection systems in the metropolitan cities of Ahemdabad and Delhi. The job responsibility included detailed engineering design, cost estimation, tendering and bid awards plus monitoring at the execution level.
