Shirish Garud
Mr Shirish Garud, Director and Senior Fellow, Renewable Energy Technology Division, TERI, having more than two decades of experience in renewable energy sector, is a well-known specialist in renewable energy technologies, energy planning and renewable energy policy studies. He has rich experience in solar and wind resource assessment, technology development, and deployment. He is an acknowledged and certified trainer and expert on RETScreen software, developed for renewable energy project feasibility studies. He led a multi-activity flagship project on ‘Integrated Energy Management Master Plan for Bhutan’ which was a cornerstone project for the Government of Bhutan. He has published research papers, and articles in leading publications. He was part of the team which developed curriculum for long distance course on Renewable Energy Technologies for TERI University jointly with Open University of UK. He has also contributed towards major policy initiatives in India including the development of REC (Renewable Energy Certificate) mechanism. Currently, he is heading Center of Excellence on Energy Storage and also NABL accredited laboratory for solar PV appliances and batter testing. He is also developing team Mr Garud has developed deeper understanding of the market needs, regulatory environment and technical interventions required. He believes in developing competent teams and matching infrastructures for technology development and interventions to address social needs. He is avid reader and passionate trekker. He is a mechanical engineer with M tech (Energy Systems Engineering) from IIT Bombay.
