Spot power prices down 21 per cent: IEX
Electricity prices in spot market declined by 21per cent in March even as there was a 18per cent surge in trade volume. The decline in demand is on account of low demand for electricity amid a countrywide lockdown to prevent spread of coronavirus.In March 2020, the electricity market at India Energy Exchange saw a trade of 4,291 million units- the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) traded 3,971 MU during the month and saw 18per cent YoY growth while the Term Ahead Market (TAM)traded 320 MU and recorded 30per cent YoY growth, an official statement said.The southern distribution utilities continued preference for TAM contracts.The total sell bids in day-ahead market were 12,207 MU and the buy bids at 4,545 MU.
