Kolhapur: Farmers protest against power tariff hike

Farmers across Kolhapur district registered their protest against hike in power tariff by Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) and termed the decision as anti-farmer.The MSEDCL has increased the power tariff for agricultural consumers from April 1 2017. But farmers organisations have called the hike anti-farmer and demanded the government to share the burden of additional charges.As per the official press statement from Maharashtra Vij Grahak Sanghtana (MVGS), a consumer organisation, the Maharashtra electricity regulatory commission has put the burden of additional power tariff on farmers."This is the third power tariff hike after the first in June 2015 followed by another in November 2016.
