AAP opposes closure of state-run power plants
With three state-run thermal power generation plants in Punjab facing closure, leader of Opposition and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sukhpal Singh Khaira on Wednesday demanded a white paper on the current power situation in view of its proposal to close down the plants at Bathinda, Lehra Mohabbat and Rupnagar. The three private thermal plants in Punjab have a total generation capacity of 3,920 mega watt (MW) and even if the government draws no power from them, it’s required to pay fixed charges to the private operators.
