3 years on, JK Govt fails to resume work on Rattle Power Project
Once touted as big hope for the power deficit Jammu Kashmir, 850-MW Rattle Hydroelectric Power Project (RHEPP) is in limbo for the past 3 years, after the developer fled the project site midway.It has been 38 months since the Hyderabad based company GVK Development Projects Private Limited gave up the construction work of the project at Chenab Valley’s Kishtwar district over “disagreements on tariff rates and interference by local political activists, who were demanding employment for the locals”. The contract for construction of Rs 6,000 Rattle project was awarded to M/s GVK Limited on BOOT basis under Independent Power Producers (IPP) mode in June 2010.Despite spending Rs 600 crore on the project, GVK has now formally applied for the canc.....
