Indian road construction sector offers ample opportunity to all players as it is going through strong revival phase , from past three years road construction in India showing positive changes and development, between FY14-17 we have witnessed yearly awarding length increased by 5 times and construction activity up by 2 times. In FY18 per day construction was 27 km per day and awarded length was 47 km per day, now ministry is targeting 41 km per day for FY19. Figure showing strong revival in this sector till FY17, and for FY18 total length awarded was 17,055 kms , where contribution of NHAI , MoRTH and NHIDCL were 7397 ,8651 and 1006 kms respectively, also total constructed length stood 9829 kms. They have won some major construction work on EPC and Hybrid Annuity mode in the country. Connecting Remote Areas Depending upon requirement of connectivity including population growth, tourist attraction and traffic demand the Ministry declares some state roads as new NH time to time. Further the ministry has approved about 55,233 km of State roads as new National highway. Ministry has prepared an action plan for 115 identified districts to provide National Highway road connectivity by 2021-22, costing about INR 1,11,712 crore with total road length of about 15,451 km. Out of this about 4,350 km length of roads have been already completed. In addition with rural connectivity, Prime Minister’s Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) is a scheme for rural development in India. Taking further step, road and transport ministry providing road connectivity to 85 per cent rural habitations in the country, aim to connect all rural areas and villages through this scheme by 2019. Upgradation, development and maintenance of National Highway are continuous process. Under this proposal, the Ministry has identified some stretches for development which includes followings: • About 26,200 km length of Economic Corridors • 8,000 km of Inter Corridors, 7,500 km of Feeder Routes • 4,100 km Coastal and Port connectivity roads • 1,900 km Expressways, National Corridor Efficiency improvement by development of ring roads around 28 cities • 5,300 km Border and International connectivity roads • Decongestion of about 125 choke points and 66 congestion points • Development of 35 nos. of Multimodal Logistics Parks Conclusion FY 18 was one of the most successful year for roads sector as NHAI and MoRTH were so active awarding roads projects, NHAI alone awarded 150 projects length of 7397 km of roads, on which 3,396 km was awarded through Hybrid Annuity mode, also it is being expected that in first two months of FY19 around 3000 km of roads will be awarded. Furthermore expected earlier completion of Eastern Peripheral Expressway (first road project in India using solar for lighting entire expressway) in a record time of about 500 days, against the targeted 910 days , shows the pace of construction and encourage investment for future projects.
