Renewable Sector at a Glance
Section 86 (1) and 86 (1)(e) of the Electricity Act, 2003 mandates the promotion of generation of electricity from renewables and co-generation.
In India, renewable energy sources under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy comprised 12% of the total grid connected power capacity in December 2011, against just 1.5 % nine years ago.
India has already achieved 23,129.40 MW of renewable capacity addition as of January 31, 2012 during the 11th five year plan
