Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited stocks up power to meet Diwali demand
The Akhilesh Yadav-led government went into an overdrive on Thursday as the demand for power rocketed up by 4,000 MW to 13,500 MW on account of Diwali, from just over 9,400 MW registered a day before. The significant escalation in demand forced the UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) to open its coffers even as it purchased power at a hefty cost of Rs 6 per unit from energy exchange. In fact, all sources were being tapped to ensure enough power to people in the state. According to UPPCL sources, around 2,000MW of power was purchased from energy exchange while 1,400 MW was bought in from the open market. The state was getting around 4,500MW of power from the central pool. UP's own power generation was pegged at 4,800MW which included 2,700M.....
