Despite reduction, Maharashtra power tariff still high
Even though Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) has reduced MSEDCL's tariff for industry, it is still on the higher side compared to most neighbouring states. To add to the woes, the cross subsidy surcharge (CSS) has been increased, which has made open access power costlier. Another negative development for industries is reduction in night rebate from Rs 2.50 per unit to Rs 1.50 per unit. One positive step though has been reduction in transmission charges from 49 paise to 26 paise a unit.The new industrial tariff is higher than that declared in August 2012.
