Dehradun: Work on 660Mw Kishau power project to resume soon
After the start of the Lakhwar and Vyasi hydroelectric power projects in Uttarakhand, the Uttarakhand government has now shifted focus on launching the 660-MW multi-purpose Kishau dam project. The Rs 7,193 crore worth project will be built on river Tonks, a tributary of Yamuna that flows between Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. Besides the 619 mcm of drinking water, the project would generate water to irrigate 97,076 hectare land. The project, which was handed over to Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) in 2011, was delayed as Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand were at loggerheads over the water-sharing issue.
