Big relief for NTPC Thermal power plants in Bihar, Centre allays coal shortage concerns
NTPC’s thermal power plants at Bihar’s Kahalgaon and West Bengal’s Farakka will not be facing any coal shortage this year, the coal ministry said in a statement on Friday. Coal for these power plants are sourced from Eastern Coalfields Limited’s (ECL) Rajmahal opencast project.The statement from the coal ministry follows some media reports which said that these two plants may face coal shortage as ECL was having trouble to acquire land to expand the Rajmahal mine. The statement said that the acquisition process is being solved in stages with the help of Jharkhand state government and from July, Rajmahal’s Dahernangi patch and Bhadotola village would give ECL access to additional 27 million tonnes of coal.
